How to recover your lost data from PC/laptop
One of the biggest nightmare for many of us is losing important data (photos, videos and documents) accidentally. Many a times we lose our precious data on laptop or computer after accidentally deleting it, due to crashing of hard drive or crashing of your PC‘s operating system.
Here’s a ready-to-use guide on how you can recover/restore your deleted/lost data from your PC/laptop.
Before we talk about the tips, here are a few things which we should keep in mind:
• It is almost impossible to recover all lost data, but a large part of it can be.
• Recently-deleted data are easy to recover due to the free and fresh sector of the deleted data on hard drive.
• It becomes easier to search the data when the file extension or format is known. These include:
o For images: .jpg, .png, .CR2., gif
o For videos: .mp4, .3gp, .wmv, .mkv
o For documents: .doc, .docx, .ppt, .pptx, .xls, .xlxs, .psd
o For audio: .mp3, .m4a, .wav, .wma, .flacc
• Smilarly, the process becomes much faster if we remember the location of the deleted data.
Once, you are ready with all the necessary information, follow the steps below:
Method 1: Using the Windows built-in feature.
Windows operating system has a built in feature called ‘Restore the previous version’. This feature scans the specific folder or drives for all the recent changes made, allowing users to choose from the list of changes and restore them.
Follow the steps to restore the data using this feature:
- Open this PC by clicking the Start button, and then click on This PC.
Navigate to the folder that where the file resided.
Right click on the file or folder and click on Restore previous version option.
It will now show the list of available versions of files or folders.
Select the version and click on Restore button at the bottom to restore.
Method 2: Using third-party software
If the Method 1 doesn’t work then you can try using some third-party apps such as easeUS partition, Recuva, Rescue Pro, etc.
You can simply download and install any of the above software and get going. Select the drive or folder where the file was. After this, select the file format you want to recover and click on Scan. However, clicking on the Scan button without selecting the file format will search for all the deleted files in that particular folder or drive.
Once the software has complete the scanning process, select all the files and save it to PC.
